Alexandria (“Alex”) Bettencourt is an attorney with Kempton Ferguson, LLP. Before joining Kempton Ferguson, Alex worked as an attorney at the predecessor firm, Robin, Ferguson & Kempton, LLP for five years. Having practiced family law almost exclusively throughout her career, Alex has experience in nearly every facet of family law, including disputed custody matters, complex high asset cases, and domestic violence matters.
Before entering private practice, Alex worked as a law clerk with Bay Area Legal Aid in the domestic violence and family law unit and was a Judicial Extern for the San Francisco County Superior Court, where she later returned as a Bridge Fellow after law school.
Alex enjoys truly getting to know her clients and working collaboratively with them so she can understand their interests and perspectives and advocate in a way that best serves their goals.
“Having been a child of divorce myself, I strive to facilitate agreements between parents—to the extent possible—so they can proceed amicably during their family’s time of transition, but I will not shy away from litigation if that’s what is needed.”
While Alex is litigation ready, she is also passionate about mediation. Alex is a certified mediator and developed her own family law and mediation practice in the East Bay after she graduated law school. In addition to her mediation experience in family law, Alex participated in her law school’s Mediation Clinic, where she mediated disputes between litigants in the Small Claims division of the San Francisco County Superior Court.
Alex’s other legal experience includes working as an intern at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office and as a Certified Law Clerk at the Solano County District Attorney’s Office, where she gained valuable litigation experience.
In her spare time, Alex enjoys dabbling in interior decoration, puttering around her garden, and traveling to warm places with her partner.
